Our Mission
The GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment is the charitable and volunteer arm of Great Lakes Credit Union. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we’re committed to building financial well-being for our members, employees, and communities. Our goal is to:
- Effect positive change throughout our communities
- Financially empower everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status
- Make a tangible difference for our members and communities
Committed Volunteers: The “Great Wave” Volunteer Program
More than half of Great Lakes Credit Union employees volunteer annually with the GLCU Foundation’s “Great Wave” program, providing invaluable support to local nonprofits. We believe in prioritizing volunteerism and give all full-time employees up to 8 hours off annually to volunteer.
Financial Literacy for Everyone
The GLCU Foundation’s workshops are designed to serve community members across ages, incomes, and backgrounds. Topics range from budgeting and dealing with debt to paying bills and planning for large purchases. These workshops help participants make more informed decisions about their finances, avoid financial pitfalls, and achieve their financial goals.

We believe in the power of collaboration. To broaden our reach and maximize impact, the GLCU Foundation builds partnerships with other nonprofits aligned with our mission of financial empowerment. Join us in our mission to give back and empower our local communities.
