Security Statement

Great Lakes Credit Union makes Internet security a top priority. We’re committed to protecting the confidentiality of your personal information and use the latest technology to ensure the security of your online transmissions.

Internet Security Measures

Great Lakes Credit Union encrypts all account information and transactions performed during an online or mobile banking session as well as all information submitted via our online forms. We use 256-bit Secure Socket Layers (SSL) technology provided by Symantec/Digicert. SSL encryption technology protects information you submit or receive during an online or mobile banking session by ensuring that communication between your computer and our servers cannot be interrupted or intercepted by an unauthorized user. While we take every precaution to safeguard transmissions using the most current technology, no representation can be made as to the security of these transmissions against the fraudulent or wrongful use of this technology. For your safety, look for the https:// prefix on the URL address of the secure pages of our website.

Fraudulent Website Protection

Cyber thieves often use personal information shared over the Internet to commit fraud. A typical ploy involves creating a website with a name similar to that of a reputable business by using a common misspelling of the company’s name. The intent is to lure you into the copycat website and enter personal information, including your account number and password. Always double-check that the web address is for the site you intended to do business with before submitting personal data. For additional security steps, review the FDIC’s “Safe Internet Banking” guide. Many fake websites use pop-up windows to ask for usernames and passwords. Great Lakes Credit Union does not use pop-up windows for login purposes.

Browser Support For SSL

Great Lakes Credit Union requires that your browser support SSL to access online or mobile banking and our secure online forms and applications. Secure session information and transactions will never be stored on your hard drive unless you specifically download and save them on your computer. Each browser provides a way to view the digital certificate information during a secure session so you may verify its security.

Computer System Protection

We strongly recommend that you install firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your computer and keep all of your computer software up to date. The same applies to software and firmware upgrades for your cell phone if you use mobile banking. Various software packages, including your operating system, web browser, anti-virus/spyware, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash and Java, are frequently updated with the latest security patches. Be sure to keep these packages updated and current with the latest patches.

Firewall Technology

Great Lakes Credit Union uses the latest in firewall technology to permit entry only to those with proper authorization. A firewall is a security system that regulates and acts as a shield for data transmitted into or out of a network. It checks to make sure that communications occur only between approved individuals and with the proper protocols.
