Fraud Alerts
Report fraud and phishing scams and stay alert to the latest cyber fraud trends.
Computer Fraud
To report potential e-scams, visit the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). Note: The FBI does not send mass emails to private citizens about cyber scams. If you receive an email claiming to be from the FBI Director or other top official, it’s most likely a scam.
If you receive unsolicited email offers or spam, forward the messages to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at spam@uce.gov.
Phishing Scams
Some members have reported email, phone, text, and mail fraud from scammers posing as Great Lakes Credit Union representatives requesting:
- Mobile wallet verification codes sent via email or text
- Card PIN
- CVV
- Expiration Date
If you’ve received a suspicious request for personal information, please do not respond, click on links, or open attachments. File a report with the FTC or contact us.
If you have Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile cell phone service and receive phishing text messages, forward the messages to SPAM (7726) for investigation.
Gift Card Scams
Gift cards are popular with scammers, because they have fewer protections than other payment options. Once a scammer has the gift card number and PIN, they have your money.
If someone calls demanding you pay them with gift cards, assume it’s a scammer and file a report with the:
- FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov – even if you didn’t pay
- State attorney general
- Local police department if you lost money
